Need to create custom new opportunity button on account with it tied to account

Hello

I've been given a project to move us from using leads to opportunities as our "Referral" system and what I'd really like to do is create a custom button on the Account object that will open up an Action layout for employees to fill in AND already has the member name/account linked to the Opportunity.

I looked at the "Actions..." section on the Opportunity object and didn't see the option to create just an opportunity record, and I looked at Global Actions and can't figure out how to tie the account lookup in automatically so employees don't need to fill it out.

Is this possible? Can someone provide some guidance?

As a note, I'm still fairly new to Salesforce and I haven't been able to wrap my head around Flow yet - just workflow rules and PB.

Thank you!

Hi Tabitha,

Actions are definitely the way you want to go! What I would recommend is creating an Action on the Account object. This will allow you to use the Create a Record action from which you can create an Opportunity, pass in the Account, and include the fields of your choice on the action layou editor.

Here's an example:

Once the Action is saved, you can then use the Predefined Values related list to pass in values from your Account record onto the Opportunity, such as the id of the Account:

Just let me know if you have any questions, and I'd be happy to help further troubleshoot.

Thanks!
