I have the following setup:
- A custom object called Line Items Requested that has 2 record types.
- A Profile assigned to a User that sets the default Record Type to AIP
- A Permission Set that assigns the AIP Record Type as well
However, when I log in as the Users with this Profile and this Permission Set and go to create a Line Item Requested, I have to choose between Record Types. Also, when I go to set defaults in the Personal User Settings, the incporrect defaults are available
Can anyone help me sort this out or tell me what bit I'm missing to get the expected behaviior of not making these Users choose a record type?

I have tried a few variations and seem to have found the answer myself:
The Object settings for the Profile apparently needs to have --Master-- assigned and set to default. Then on the permission set objects settings the intended record type needs to be assigned.
