Send Email Alert to Opportunity Parent Account Owner

I'm trying to setup automated email alerts to an account's account manager when a new opportunity is created for that account.

Problem 1 was we were using a text based field for the account manager, which was fine for our purposes until now. So to fix that I set the account owner field to the account manager's user account. (we don't have internal competition so it didn't matter who owned an account.)

Problem 2, How do I get my email alert to email the Opportunity's Parent Account's Account Owner.

I know I can do lookups and even parent account lookups, but this is multiple levels of lookup?

The Opportunity Owner can't change.

I need to associate the email of the Opportunity's Parent Account's Account Owner to the Opportunity.
And then also have the alert email them.

So here's the layers.
Opportunity >
Associated Parent Account >
Account Owner (A SF User) >
Account Owner's Email Address/Name

I've used formulas like TEXT(Parent.Account_Manager__c) to lookup related information before, but that's only one layer deep.

Hi James,

You think in the right direction... You can create a custom email formula field to pull the account owner in the opportunity.

Hi,

Is the account owner custom filed formula field that is pulling parent account owner field from the parent account?

You can create an email formula field on the opportunity and use that email field to send the email alert.

Hi Prashant,

The Account Owner is not actually a custom field, it's the built in "OwnerId" field that gets populated when a record is created by the creator.

Opportunity's also have an "OwnerId" field, but it's labeled as "Opportunity Owner". But the Opportunity Owner needs to remain unchanged.

It might be possible to pull the OwnerId's email address and put it on the parent Account in a field that could be pulled down to the opportunity possibly. But I'm not sure how, because i don't think it's the same relationship.

Ah yep, this was what I was missing, this lets me pull down info from the parent account to the opportunity.
