Log a Call, New Task and New Event Showing in Chatter vs. Activity Timeline

I need Log a Call, new Task, and New Event to show in the Activity Timeline in my lightning layout, but it's stuck in chatter. I've added these elements in the lightning actions on the page layout and it's still stuck there. Thoughts on how to fix? Example in (1) of the below image... need it to show like (2). I answered your query as it is designed as such by Salesforce and only objects which have Activity actions are Accounts, Contacts and Opportunities.

Hello Lindsay,

Edit the lightning record page ( Gear icon on top-right >> Edit Page)

Remove the existing component ( [1] in your screenshot )

Add the "Activities" standard component to your lightning record page.
This will display the activity related actions like - New Task, New Event..

When you add "Chatter Feed" component, you will see Poll,Post actions.

Thanks for your input. I have both the activity timeline and the chatter publisher in my layout - I've removed both and tried just adding the activity timeline but it's still stuck in ChatterUser-added image

Are you sure you modifed the correct lighting record page (from the lighnign app buider..) which is assigned to your user profile? May be you have mutiple record pages and you are editing the one which is not assigned to you.

Yes, I've even tried creating a brand new Lightning record page and its doing the same thing.

Hi Lindsay,
I am also facing the same issue with the Case object. For the rest of the objects, like Accounts, Opportunities, COntacts, etc., it just works fine, meaning the New Task, New Events buttons are showing up under Acitivity correctly. Only for Case it is showing up under Chatter, cannot see why, unless it's a known issue.
How about you, which object are you trying ? Thanks

Same here! Only happening on the Case Object - appearing fine everywhere else. 

I opened a case with Salesforce but haven't been able to touch base with them yet. I'll post the outcome.

Just got off the phone with Salesforce. They said that Salesforce designed it this way for Cases. In every other Object these activities appear at the top of the activity timeline, but for Cases it does not. I'm not sure why they would do that, but at least I have my answer! I'm waiting for their follow up documentation to post here.

I am having the issue where New Tasks are showing up under Chatter and not Activity. How to solve this?

I just dealt with this and the components are set up kinda backwards for conventional logic. The "Chatter" component is the one that contains logging calls, creating tasks, etc., so just remove the Chatter component from the Chatter tab, remove the Activities component from the Activities tab, then add the Chatter component to the Activities tab and you will now have this:

I have the opposite issue but am hoping you all can help. I want to use the Chatter Publisher component on the Case object but I ONLY have "Email" ... (I am using the Activity Tab with the Chatter Publisher component FYI). I have the actions added to the page layout but that doesn't seem to impact what actions are available in the Chatter Publisher. Any idea how to update this?

Hi Lyndsay,
Have you tried going onto the record layout for case in the Lightning App Builder, and adding the "Chatter Feed" as a tab next to activity. This should do the trick!

When I add the "Chatter Feed" component, I still only see "Email" ... and the Chatter Feed is just the feed.. I think the Chatter Publisher is for actions. In any case, whether I add the Standard Lightning component for "Chatter Publisher," "Chatter," or "Chatter Feed" I still only see "Email." Try:
Setup -> Publisher Layouts -> Global Layout -> edit -> make sure that the actions you want (such as Post, Poll, Question) are listed in the section titled "Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions".

They actions are definitely on the global layout and the object specifc case layouts. I even created an object specific action for Log a Call, added to page layout, still doesn't show in the Chatter Publisher. Seems like, no matter what I try, I only have "email" User-added image

FYI - I figured this out. For Log a Call to show in the Chatter Publisher component, the quick actions needs to be on ALL page layouts. I was trying to only include it on the page layouts that planned to use "Log a Call" but it seems like it's ALL layouts or NONE. Didn't read that anywhere in the documentation. What a bummer but glad it's solved. Thanks for everyone's help!

@Jackie Dobro - this happened to me and the issue was that I had to have "Feed Tracking" enabled on the relevant object. Hopefully it's that simple for you!
