How do I hide dependent fields on the page when the controlling field is not in use?

I may have set it up wrong, but I need a conditional picklist, so I set up dependent fields.

Controlling field
CAN Office Sales Area General
If someone picks Ontario then we need a field to pick the following
Greater Ontario
Southern Ontario
etc.

I do not want the page to show the dependent fields until they are called upon.  Otherwise the page is going to be filled with sub options.

Screen shot of how the page looks. It lists the controlling field and all dependent fields

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You can't. You'll have to build a custom VF/Lightning page in that case.

Hi Charlie , Its not possible to using standard way. You may need to go for APEX VF code.

Thanks guys.  I don't know anything about APEX VF code, but saw that on other answers on the forum.  I'll just have to put it down to another thing that we can't do.
