Can't assign cases using active assignment rules when creating new case in Lightning for Outlook

We are hoping to create cases with Lightning for Outlook. We use case record types and have created a global action for one record type for testing purposes. However, we can't assign cases using active assignment rules in Lightning for Outlook. The option is only available in Salesforce. Does anyone have a workaround for this? Salesforce support recommended manually assigning or mass updating using the import wizard to update.

Have you tried creating automations (Workflow or Process) that mimics your assignment rule criteria which triggers whenever a case is created? Let me know if it works for you.
