We're a non-profit and I guess every campaign involves some level of volunteer work. Does that mean for us all campaigns are volunteer campaigns?

When I create a regular campaign, it seems to be working for us.

Note: I'm just starting down the web integration trailhead and I can see glimpses of functionality with a web form like picking a shift that seems pretty cool... is that the sort of functionality that's exclusive to a volunteer campaign?

I've been using SF for about 4 months now and have been dabbling with creating regular campaigns and now I wonder if I have to redo my work, or just start with the volunteer campaigns moving forward.

What are the real differences?

What am I giving up if I go with just Volunteer Campaigns exclusively for our org?

It really depends on what you are trying to track (automation, reporting, etc).

One way that you could handle it is by having a Campaign (for you a volunteer event like showing up to build a habitat for humanity house). So, there is a Campaign Member record that links Contacts/Leads to a Campain. On the CM, you can add custom fields for things like "Number of hours" or stages for committed/delivered/etc.

The schema builder shows you how your database tables are linked. If you are looking at creating extra objects to track data and putting fields on them, its good to know how it works or have someone give you a hand. That way you knowwhere you are putting things. On the left side bar, you can deselect objects (start simple then add) so you can see how your Campaign relates to things that are important to your needs.
