You can just create an Activities with Contacts report and then add the Department field to the report

Thank you for the swift response Adam, The requirement is when we create a report to have the complete activities list we wanted the "contact.department" also to show up the values, Could you please advise what can I do to get the best outcome ?

You'd have to use a Process Builder. You can't use Cross Object formulas on Activity to pull values through your WhoId
