Is there a way to import Accounts without Contacts?

We are trying to upload a LARGE number of manufacturer's and most of these companies do not have a contact assoicated with them or the contact info is out of date.  Is it possible to upload only Accounts?  I don't want to put in dirty out of date data into our new instance of SF Enterprise.

So if you can stay away from the out-of-the-box Data Import Wizard then you might wanna look at the Dataloader.IO[https://dataloader.io/]. It is again a web-based ETL tool released and maintained by a 3rd party called MuleSoft and best of which it is completely free and very easy to use too!

You can upload only accounts. What import method are you planning on using?

I am currently using the import wizard, but it is forcing me to associate a contact with each Account.

Jamey - does your import setting look like this?
I could not duplicate the error. If you are adding new accounts, you do not need to "match contact by" or "match account by". You can leave those as NONE.

Ironically I run into this same issue sometimes where even if I leave the Match by Contact field as "None" it still wants me to Map the "Required Field: Last Name"

It's not necessary to import contacts when you import accounts, but you need to make sure that all contact fields are not mapped to any import field. Since the wizard automatically maps fields for you, it's important to review the mapping carefully before you choose to start the import.

I am having trouble with this issue still. It just wont let me upload without a Contact Last Name. I just want to upload the account with no contacts.

Hi - I ran across this same issue today. Not sure if you still need help, but I created a column for Contact Last Name in my Excel spreadsheet that had all the Accounts in it that I wanted to import. I left the cells under Contact Last Name blank. When I did my import I mapped the Contact Last Name field - wasn't sure if it would create a blank contact under each account but it didn't. It imported all my accounts and no contacts were created. I only had 25 to import, so maybe test it importing only 5 accounts or so and see if that works. If that doesn't make sense or you have questions let me know.
