Custom table columns order and sorting

I'm trying to customize a report and dashboard component to use a Customized Table on the dashboard.  I worked with the source report to create a chart that is plotting additional values, and is using a second axis...so I can get to the point of adding column 3 on my dashboard table component...

Where I am struggling is I need "Close Date" to be Column 3 (which it in column 3 in my example below) AND for the table to be sorted by Column 3.  I'm failing withing being able to sort the data for Column 3.

I have only been able to sort by "Close Date" if I change the source report chart around and then put "Close Date" in Column 1.  I'm a bit confused because every other data field that goes into Column 3 (either "Account Name" or "Sum of Amount Converted") allows me to sort the column when it is Column 3, just not the Close date.

Any idea what I'm missing?

Hi Jessica,

I would like to try and assist here.As per my understanding about your requirement.

I have investigated further and unfortunately this feature is currently not customizable to the extent you require -

This is currently not a functionality within Salesforce. It is an Idea on the Ideas Exchange.

I have included a direct link to the IdeaExchange, a Salesforce forum for new feature ideas and voting on requests:

https://sites.secure.force.com/success/ideaView?id=08730000000I2BIAA0

http://success.salesforce.com/ideaHome?c=09a30000000D9xtAAC

However, occasionally you will see the ability to sort on dates in the dashboard table builder.  Ths is a result of browser caching.

We would recommend you and your users to vote, (or 'promote') the Idea, - if there is enough support for an idea (as voted by other Salesforce users), it will be included in the next release.

All feature requests go into a formal process that includes:
- Documenting and submitting your request to the review teams
- Prioritizing and reviewing each recommendation
- Assigning a scheduled release date, if appropriate

We value each and every request submitted by our customers and make all efforts to include your request in future releases.

I hope this information has been helpful.  If the above information was helpful, please make sure to take a moment to share the resolution and mark the post as "Best Answer" to assist others in the community with similar questions.  Thank you.

In case if you need additional help please revert back with your inputs.

Being able to sort by whatever column you want is a very basic functionality of Excel. Because I can't do this in Salesforce, I have to export my report to an Excel workbook and present to my CEO an Excel report...not a Salesforce dashboard. Good luck competing with Microsoft if you can't replicate something so simple and essential.
