how do i display a serial number without comma formatting

I am setting up a custom object to track trademark registration, and have added two number fields to store Serial Number and Registration Number.  The Salesforce screen is helpfully adding separating commas to these numbers, which I do not want on the display.  How do I display the numbers wtihout commas?

Hey Kate,

All you need to do is change the type of the field from a number type to a text type and it will remove the comma's

This being said, if you are trying to read it as a number (calculate things via math functions, its going to be a little harder)

In short:
Setup > Create > Objects > Select the Custom Object > Fields > Select the field and change the field type!

Best of luck!

I would also create a validation rule so users cannot imput text in the two fields

If I change the custom field type from number to text (to avoid commas), will current data in the number field be lost?
James GarfieldJames Garfield
Hey Lise,

It shouldn't per the help docs (https://help.salesforce.com/HTViewHelpDoc?id=notes_on_changing_custom_field_types.htm&language=en_US)

But you may want to consider backing your data up or running a report just in case! You should be all set!

Best of luck!

I want all the number/amount in Indian style separator, like 3,00,000 should be 300,000 etc.
