Hello

I would like to import a database of leads from an Excel file. This Excel has a few fields : Company/Contact name/contact phone/contact mail.

I tried to manage this import with the assistant in settings/administration/data management/import leads (sorry for the translation because of using salesforce in french!)

But my issu is : I can't succeed in matching the csv fields with the saesforce fields so it doesn't work!

For testing importation, my .csv file has just 2 columns : Company and owner (me)

The result is : the leads have been imported as Account and not lead and the field company has merged the name of the company with my name!

Is it because my .csv file has columns instead of comma separated values ?

Thanks for your help it will be appreciate :-)

Best regards

Philippe

    Hi Syed

    thanks for your answer

In fact my major issue was the merge of 2 columns in the same field wehn importing the csv file.

I found a solution : "bizarre" when you create the Excel with 2 columns or more with the right mapping names... you save it in xlsx on your computer... and then you open it via google doc (you send the file to your mail adress and open it in your google cession)

When it's open you save it via google doc in a .csv file

And guess what happens... it works !!! no issue in mapping

    Hi Philipe!!

Thank you for the google docs tip. It worked perfectly. But I was wondering if you found an easier solution as I don't wanna depend on going the google docs route each time I have to import a .csv file.

    Thanks,

I have the exact same mapping issue. I think this is due to my computer running in french and not in english (192.5 is 192,5 is french, so it's messed up)

Hi, I have the same mapping issue when creating my .csv from excel.

Anyway, I'm very grateful for the workaround.

sorry for late response. i went to sleep last night and today was a busy day. lets do two things...

let me create a small video for you which explains how to map..it is very easy to map fields during import process.

    or

i can send you a webex session and walk you through the process.

let me know which one will be more helpful for you?

    Hi Syed

so... I've tried one csv file with one column named "société" (company)... and it works fine in Leads import.

Next step : I've added an other column named "Téléphone" (phone number)

So two columns "société" and "Téléphone"

When I lauch the Leads assistant I upload my csv file selecting mapping by name and on the next mapping the fields, as you can see it on my screenshot, société and téléphone have merged.

The result is that after the import "société" and "téléphone" are merge in the same field : société !

I don't know how to map these fields to the right salesforce field !

    Thanks

Hi Syed so... I've tried one csv file with one column named

    it should work...

you have csv file with two columns....Company and Owner.... now tell me what value are you giving for owner field? is it just name? or user Id?

in salesforce owner basically reference to a user record so it should hold a valid user record ID ...you will receive an error if you are just passing a name.

try importing some record without owner and see what happen

you can create a file ... with two columns...company, industry

System will make you owner of record automatically.

also use Lead assignment rules for assigning leads to appropriate owners after you import them.

let me know if you are able to import it successfully, otherwise we can connect through webex and i will walk you through the process.
