Just wondering if anyone has any advice about the best way to manage the migration of legacy systems into CRM.  We have 2 legacy systems that will be retired as part of our enterprise CRM implementation.  Problem is they are complex, messy and business-critical.  The 'big bang' approach is scary, because of the scale and the time required.  It would also be good to get some quick(ish) wins on the board!

Both these legacy systems have the ability to create/modify customer data.  So if we rolled out SFDC whilst keeping the old systems running, we would need some strategy to manage master data (i.e. customer records added/modified  in one system)  I am reluctant to get into integration because of the time to implement, cost, fragility of the old systems and the fact that it's a temporary situation until the legacy systems are decommissioned.

Does anyone have a similar story or any advice?

Get a Consultant! This is the best advice anyone can give you. :)

Integrations can be messy beasts at best. We are a Salesforce team of 6 at my company and our migrations are always the biggest pain we undergo. It is a huge drain on resources for several weeks prior as you scope out what needs to migrated, convey that to the rest of the company, train the users, cleanse the old/bad data, migrate it and then support it. Better to focus your efforts on supporting it after the fact and get a consultant to do all the dirty work up front.
