Why don't I have inline editing on my reports and list views?

I have inline editing enabled.  I recently saw a video of somone using it on list views and reports.  I don't see a pencil on my list views or reports.

Check out the tips at the bottom of https://na14.salesforce.com/help/doc/en/inline_editing_in_a_list.htm. I think the record type issues is a subtle one that is often overlooked so I would start there if you are using record types.

There is a user permission associated with it as well as you have to have enhanced lists enabled.

Assuming you have all the right permissions and at the risk of asking a silly question:

Are you hovering into your fields? The pencil does not just show up, you need to hover.

Do you also have Enhanced List Views enabled as well?

If you have it enabled, you simply run a list view, check the boxes of multiple records in the View and then double click the field you want to edit. Note that not all fields are supported by this. Those that are, will show a pencil icon when you hover over them.
