Formula to convert Account Look Up field id to text

Has anyone created a formula that will read the Account LookUp field and output the Account Name to a text field?

I used the formula to output Account Name, but it returns the Account key, not the name.

Thank you for your help,
Char

Just create a Formula(TEXT) field and use the Advanced Formula Tab and the insert Field button and navigate through the Lookup Account> field to the Account>Name in insert it into your formula.

That was perfect!  thank you Steve.  I had a custom Opportunity Field for Billable Client, which was a look up to the Account Name.  I needed to use the custom Billable Client - name field.

Is there any alternative to this method when you have used up all of your lookup relationships for that object?

@SteveMo - Any chance you can provide direction on how to do something like this when adding a Formula(TEXT) field to the Event but wanting to display the Related To and Name fields as not the ID but their "translated" text names?  Unfortunately, with these two fields on the Activity (Event), I'm unable to "navigate through" another object to grab the corresponding values for these fields.

The only way I know how to do this is to create a lookup field on the Activity/Task for your object (I know, I know, it's like why when the related to is basically like the same thing), then you would create a workflow or use Process Builder to push the ID from the Related to -to the Object record name field you created (Custom).  Then you can grab the literal as needed in formulas etc, etc..

I've done this for Opportunities specifically, but it would work for any other object you need a literal naming convention for.

@steve molis, this solution is not working for me. We are using Person Accounts; is there something we need different in the formula to pull across the account name to the opportunity or a child of the opportunity?

I have already tried Account> Account Name, Account> Person Account> Account Name, and Account> Person Account> Last Name; all are resulting as blank. Please help, thanks!

hi guys, I stumbled upon this question that's similar to an issue I'm having. I'm trying to concatanate a custom text + salesforce field (so the inverse of the question above) but I'm running into issues.

any help would be appreciated! thanks!

Hi Kerry,    This may not be exact since I don't have the custom Account Name for Reference field, but the following formula was successful:

"Customer Reference Request - " & ([Case].Account.Name )
